Obituary for Juan Serrano

Our family sadly lost a pillar on May 6th 2020, when Juan Serrano 2nd , also lovingly known as Nito passed away from Pneumonia after a long battle with Parkinsons. Juan Serrano was a great father to his 3 kids: Jonathan, John, Analyn as well as a great role model for his 3 grandkids. He was also a loving husband to his wife of 55 years; Aleja Serrano.

Juan was born on July 31, 1931 to his father Juan Serrano and his mother Carmen Maldonado in Barceloneta Puerto Rico where he grew up with his 7 brothers and sisters He migrated to Brooklyn New York many years later where he would meet his future wife Aleja Serrano. They first met at a church bizarre but they really hit it off when they later ran into each other at Red Hook Pool. They were married in 1965 and were later joined by their son Juan and 6 years later their daughter Analyn. Many, many years later their youngest son Jonathan joined the family. He was a great father to the three that could often be caught watching WWF wrestling or the Mets with his kids. Juan was a die hard Mets fan who even attended the 1986 World Series.

On a professional note Juan held many odd jobs as he started out his newlywed life before settling in as a doorman on the upper east side where he was respected and loved by his coworkers and residents alike because of his warm smile and helpful nature.

Juan will be remembered during a short service being held at Leone Funeral Home on May 13th from 12pm to 5pm and will eventually be brought home to Puerto Rico where he will be buried.

Juan is a very memorable person from his contagious smile to his unique hand shakes. Today is a very sad day but with all the smiles laughs and lesson he has bestowed upon we must think about the times that we spent with him and remember that those memories will last a lifetime.
