Obituary for Gabriel Pappas

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - Gabriel Xenophon Pappas, a beloved son, nephew, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at the age of 69.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: A Brooklyn, New York native, Gabe was born to Xenophon and Natalia Pappas. He was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School class of 1967. He went on to take college courses at Brooklyn College graduating with a degree in Political Science. Gabe influenced many lives. He was a beloved teacher and educator, having taught at the Greek Orthodox parochial school as well as the public schools. He was a counselor and listener helping many of his students along life’s path. He loved writing poems and books. He was a caretaker for his mom, dad and close aunt tirelessly attending to all their needs. He and his sister, growing up, spent many hours watching baseball and the New York Yankees. His sister still loves baseball and the New York Yankees.

A producer on BCAT, he loved to capture the lives of people that made a difference in society.

He had many students whose parents perished in 9/11 and he helped guide them thru their grieving.

In his later years, he became the co-founder of a non-profit organization that helped young people and seniors learn technology.

Gabriel passed away after a long illness. Significant to that, he passed away on the day that would have been his parent’s 71st anniversary.

Survivors: Sister, Leslie, niece and goddaughter, Krisyla, brother-in-law Allan; numerous cousins, one of his dearest friends Andrea Lawrence and her two sons Isaiah Benjamin and Josiah Benjamin and numerous other friends.
