Obituary for Ralph "Bobby" Gonzalez Sr.

Ralph “Bobby” Gonzalez, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2018. He was born on February 8, 1928, and was a lifetime resident of Brooklyn, NY. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 7:00-9:00PM, and Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 2:00-5:00PM, resuming from 7:00-9:00PM. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 10:00AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 2805 Fort Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, NY.
Bobby was a standout student athlete while he attended Saint Bonaventure University, excelling in academics and basketball. After two years, he transferred to Long Island University to be closer to his family.
As a young man, he was a soldier in the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in the Korean War. When he returned home, Bobby married Peggy (Margaret Woods), who would be his loving wife for more than 60 years. He always told his children that it was “love at first sight,” knowing instantly that she was the woman he would marry. Their love for each other was so remarkable, it would become the envy of many. Most Friday nights began with a martini and dinner for two in their kitchen, and inevitably ended with music and dancing the night away.
Bobby and Peggy spent decades as proud members of the “Harold’s” gang. Together, they would enjoy lasting friendships, raising families, taking vacations, and, of course, singing. The music sadly stopped on April 2, 2015, when Peggy passed away. Earlier this year, heartbreak struck again when Bobby lost his only son, Ricki (Ralph Jr.) on March 23. Bobby would say that it was his unending faith in God and love of family that helped him endure these tragedies.
Bobby lived life to the fullest. He was known for his optimism and generosity, as well as his wisdom and selflessness. He was a friend to anyone who ever had the privilege of meeting him.
Bobby leaves behind his three devoted daughters; Dawn, Peggy (Feeney), and Andrea (Sheridan), as well as his sons-in-law Ed Feeney and Timmy Sheridan, both of whom he loved and adored. Poppi will be lovingly and affectionately remembered by his seven grandchildren; Kristin Meza (Juan), Alexandra Fitzpatrick (John), Jack Galvin (Jaclyn), Samantha Galvin, Meghan and Kirsten Sheridan, and Eddie Feeney. He is also survived by his six cherished great-grandchildren; Juliana and Elizabeth Meza, Kailynn Fitzpatrick, and Leda, Jack, and Lillian Galvin. He will be sorely missed by all of his extensive family and friends, by whom he was deeply loved for his humor, compassion, and kindness. He is predeceased by his parents, along with his sister Lita, and brother Andrew. Whether those who knew and loved him called him Bobby, Ralph, Daddy, Poppi, Mr. G or Coach, they would all say that when it comes to him, Who Better? Nobody.
